Birmingham vs Plymouth Prediction & Match Preview

Steffen Schmidt - August 24, 2023

Birmingham vs Plymouth
English Championship
Date: 26 August 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: St Andrew’s Stadium (Birmingham).

Birmingham City got off to an amazing start to the new Championship campaign, claiming seven out of nine points from the inaugural three rounds.

They will have a nice opportunity to prolong such a fine spell of form on Saturday afternoon as newly-promoted Plymouth Argyle come to visit St Andrew’s Stadium in Gameweek No 4.

The Blues produced their best overall display of the season last weekend, keeping Bristol City toothless in the final third in a 0-2 victory at the Ashton Gate.

Birmingham did not allow a single shot on target in the 90 minutes of action against the Robins, continuing their marvelous defensive form at the start of the season.

John Eustace’s troops kept three straight clean sheets across competitions, a run that includes a 0-2 win over Cheltenham in the League Cup and a 1-0 victory over Leeds in the Championship.

Plymouth, on the other side, suffered their maiden defeat in the higher-division football last weekend, falling 1-2 at home to Southampton.

The Saints dominated the match from the start to the end and deservedly grabbed a three-pointer at Home Park despite the fact that Che Adams’ goal came in the dying minutes of the affair.

Plymouth had earlier shown decent defensive effort to shut down Watford in a goalless draw at Vicarage Road.

Birmingham vs Plymouth Head-to-head

  • Birmingham have been the dominant force in the history of this matchup with seven wins, one draw, and just one defeat in the last nine clashes against the Pilgrims.
  • These two sides last met each other in January 2022 when Plymouth grabbed a 0-1 road win after extra-time in the third round of the FA Cup.
  • Both teams were on target only twice in the previous seven head to head matches between Birmingham and Plymouth.

Birmingham vs Plymouth Prediction

Birmingham are flying high at the start of the season and we can only expect them to maintain their splendid spell of form and clinch the fourth win on the spin across competitions here against Plymouth.

The home win is paid at the attractive 1.90 odds. Alternatively, we like the Blues to keep a clean sheet at the odds of 2.25 knowing they have only conceded one goal in four competitive affairs this summer.

Birmingham vs Plymouth Betting Tips

  • Birmingham to win @ 1.90 (9/10)
  • Birmingham to keep a clean sheet @ 2.25 (5/4) odd.
