Beziers vs Valenciennes
France – Ligue 2
Date: Friday, 23 November 2018
Kick-off at 19.00 UK/ 20.00 CET
Venue: Stade de la Mediterranee (Beziers).
Two teams who occupy side-to-side positions in the league table take on each other at the Mediterranee this Friday. Beziers hosts Valenciennes as part of the 15th round fixtures of Ligue 2. The hosts occupy the 13th spot on the league table, and their opponent is at the 14th place.
Beziers suffered a meltdown last weekend against Roussillon in the round of 128 of Coupe de France, while on the road. The team from Beziers appeared to be taking home the win, but an unnecessary challenge in the 60th minute by Sissokko got him booked. The equations changed just after that.
Roussillon orchestrated a comeback and scored two goals in the 75th and 89th minutes. Hattab scored both of the goals.
Valenciennes made a comeback win against Dunkerque in the first round of the Coupe de France, at their home ground. The visitors went ahead in scores by scoring their first goal in the 10th minute itself. But the hosts hit back in three minutes. Later they added two more. The final scoreline read 3-1.
The home team looks the slight favorite to win this tie. Though this is the first head-to-head match between these sides, Beziers has the upper hand due to the backing of the home crowd.
Both teams are struggling in the league table right now and are desperately in need of points. They hang above the relegation zone by a whisker, and whoever wins this match will have a significant advantage over the other.
These teams are notorious for letting in too many goals past their defense. The trend is likely to continue this match too. Beziers hasn’t kept a clean sheet in eight of their last ten home games. And Valenciennes hasn’t done so in 22 of their last 25 games on the road.
