Peter Green - September 13, 2019
Barnsley vs Leeds
England – Championship
Date: Sunday, 15 September 2019
Kick-off at 12:30 UK / 13:30 CET
Venue: Oakwell (Barnsley).
Despite getting off to a positive start since earning promotion, Barnsley have not been able to come out on top in any of their last five games in a running. The hosts were forced to share the spoils with Wigan in their most recent matchup on the road while in the comforts of home, Luton took them down with an emphatic 3-1 scoreline.
Leeds, on the other hand, managed to go on a five-match unbeaten run right from the start of their campaign. However, prior to the international break, the visitors were given their first taste of defeat by Swansea after their counterparts slotted the only goal in the dying minutes of the game.
Nevertheless, it needs saying that the away side are still a force to reckon with and are so far unbeaten in their last three outings. Considering that the hosts have not been able to turn things around in any of their recent games, Leeds are the favorites to come out on top in this derby clash.
The home team have been far from impressive on all fronts, to say the least, and have managed to score just four goals from their last six games while being at the receiving end of nine. Additionally, Daniel Stendel’s men have lost by a two-goal margin or more in three of their previous six fixtures as well.
The visitors are a stark contrast, in comparison, and have won by a difference of two goals or more in each of their trips on the road so far.
Taking into account that Leeds have also been securing the bragging rights in two of their last three visits to this venue, Barnsley’s chances of even salvaging a point from this tie are certainly looking bleak.
Furthermore, the guests have netted eight goals from their last three outings so far, and have not been shy in breaching their opponents before the break, in each of those clashes either. Given that the visitors have also found the back of the net in the opening forty-five minutes in their last three visits here as well, you can certainly count on Leeds to get their names on the scoresheet in the first half itself.
