Steffen Schmidt - August 18, 2023
Barcelona vs Cadiz
Spanish La Liga
Date: 20 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 18:30 UK / 19:30 CET
Venue: Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys (Barcelona).
During the renovations at the Camp Nou, Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys will play host to Barcelona’s La Liga games.
This will be the case on Sunday afternoon when Blaugrana take on Cadiz in search of their maiden win in the season.
The Catalans failed to break the deadlock in the season opener against Getafe, playing only a goalless draw seven days ago at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Xavi used a conservative approach with a midfield of Oriol Romeu, Ilkay Gundogan, and Frenkie de Jong and the like of Pedri just behind Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski in the final third.
He may think of putting more strikeforce in the final third ahead of the Matchday No 2 in the home fixture against Cadiz who are, much like Getafe, expected to sit tight at the back and wait for their chances from the counter-attacks in the Catalan capital.
Speaking of Cadiz, they have found an early opener in the first game of the season against Alaves on Monday night and managed to hold on to it all up until the end of the game.
Head coach Sergio can generally be satisfied with the defensive displays his men have produced this summer in the preseason although it is worth noting they haven’t played the rival of Barcelona’s caliber yet.
Barcelona will be highly motivated to make amends for the opening round’s slip-up against Getafe. We expect them to start strongly from the kick-off and we will back the Catalans to have the lead at the half time and win the game at the end at the odds of 1.66.
In the absence of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski will take even more responsibilities in the final third. You can get the same 1.66 odds for the Polish striker to find the back of the net on Sunday.
