Steffen Schmidt - July 20, 2023
Bahia vs Corinthians
Brazilian Serie A
Date: 22 July 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 22:30 UK / 23:30 CET
Venue: Arena Fonte Nova (Salvador).
Corinthians will be looking to prolong their extraordinary streak of results on Saturday evening when they visit Salvador for the Matcday No 16 clash against Bahia at Arena Fonte Nova.
The visitors have won four games on the trot across competitions, including two within the last seven days.
They eliminated America Mineiro on penalties last weekend in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinal (3-2 in the regular time) before beating Universitario de Deportes for the second time in as many games in the last 32 round of Copa Sudamericana.
Head coach Vanderlei Luxembourgo will be hoping to see his men translate this form into the domestic league where they sit at a disappointing 15th position with only 15 points from 154 games.
Corinthians are just two points above Bahia who are just below them in the league table. Both teams have been struggling with efficiency so far in the season.
Corinthians notched no more than 12 goals in 14 games, while Bahia have not been much better with 15 goals in 15 league outings this term.
The hosts will enter this outing off the back of six straight winless affairs in all competitions. None of the last four matches they played provided three or more goals, including the last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Athletico Paranaense.
The visitors enter this in much higher spirits. They have improved their defensive displays significantly of late and we like the look of the double chance for draw or the away win bet at the 1.57 odds.
Alternatively, we like the Under 1.5 goals FT pick at the 2.62 odds knowing that both teams have had issues with the lack of attacking creativity and efficiency so far in the season.
