Atletico Mineiro could not have done much to prevent the Copa Libertadores elimination on Wednesday evening as they had to settle for a goalless draw away at Palmeiras.
It was not enough to send them through to the quarterfinal of the elite continental competition following a 0-1 defeat in the first leg in Belo Horizonte.
The team led by Luiz Felipe Scolari will now return to domestic duties as they play host to bottom-half side Bahia on Sunday afternoon in Gameweek No 19.
Atletico-MG go into this as big favorites following a strong performance in a 0-2 victory at Sao Paulo last weekend.
They have thus kept back-to-back clean sheets and we fancy their chances of making it three on the bounce here knowing the rivals have not quite been scoring for fun throughout the season.
Bahia did end their eight-game winless thread last weekend with a 3-1 home victory over America Mineiro but they generally own one of the worst attacking records in the competition.
Renato Paiva’s men have only managed to bag four goals in nine away outings in the league this season.
This does not sound promising at all ahead of the clash with the stubborn and in-form back line of Atletico-MG on Sunday.
