Ajax vs Napoli
Europe – Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 4 October 2022
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Johan Cruijff Arena.
Napoli have placed themselves in a very strong position in this tough group right away. They won both of their fixtures so far, and will be eager to keep their lead at the top intact. However, Ajax are at home, and with other great teams in this same group, they will be forced to go for the three points.
Napoli are having a dream campaign this season. They are at the top of the Serie A table, and they are at the top of their group in the Champions League. And it is quite impressive that they remain unbeaten so far.
They opened their European season with a 4-1 win at home against none other than Liverpool, and then they followed it up with a 0-3 win on the road against Rangers.
However, all is not set yet. Liverpool are placed second in the table at the moment, and they are determined to give a chase. Moreover, Jurgen Klopp’s men are pitted against the dead-last placed Rangers this match-day, and are expected to win.
As such, the three-point lead of the Italians at the top does not look safe. They will have to go for the kill this Tuesday.
However, Ajax will have other plans. They too started their run with a great win, over Rangers. The team managed to register a 4-0 win at home, and then they almost gave a heartbreak to Liverpool.
At Anfield, scores were tied at 1-1 on the second match-day, even after the 89th minute. But then the Reds found the winner, and thus Ajax lost.
They will be determined to make amends. The Dutch champions are placed third in the table at the moment, and if they hope to progress to the knockouts, they will have to deliver this Tuesday.
By the looks of things, expect a high-scoring affair at the Johan Crujiff Arena.
Ajax won seven of their past nine overall fixtures, and they were unbeaten in 40 of their past 48 overall games. Note that they are also on a four-game winning streak at home.
On the other hand, Napoli are on a five-match winning streak, and they are also on a 19-fixture unbeaten run. In the process they went on another five-game winning stretch too.
Considering these observations, expect a goal-fest this Tuesday.
