Peter Green - October 21, 2019
Ajax vs Chelsea
Champions League
Date: Wednesday, 23 October 2019
Kick-off at 17:55 UK/ 18:55 CET
Venue: Johan Cruijff Arena (Amsterdam).
With Ajax, Chelsea, and Valencia in the same mix, things were always supposed to get complicated. And as expected, affairs have taken the anticipated route.
The Dutch contingent has placed themselves in the prime position with a 100% win record so far, whereas the other two have lost once each. This Wednesday, if Erik ten Hag’s men are able to employ their home advantage well, they are in line to impress the continental crowd once again.
The Jews have been the best in the group by a mile. Not only have they won all of their fixtures so far, but they have not even conceded a single goal yet. Impressively, they have also scored three or more goals in both their games as well.
On top of that, the team has home advantage, and with the reservoir of motivation, they have at disposal due to their awe-inspiring run in this same competition the last campaign, de Joden surely holds the upper hand here.
Moreover, they have been on ominous form for quite a long time now. In fact, since the loss they experienced against Spurs in the second leg of the semi-final of the previous edition of the CL, Ajax has been going unbeaten, and that too in style.
In front of the home crowd, they are on a seven-tie winning streak and have racked up four clean sheets from their prior five appearances here. Also, the team scored twice or more in 15 of their prior 18 battles at this stadium.
On the other hand, the Blues from England have already lost against a formidable opposition once in this tournament, and that too at the Stamford Bridge. In addition, Frank Lampard is still in the process of rebuilding and rejuvenating his squad to one amongst the feared ones in Europe, after the transfer ban, and the departure of talisman Eden Hazard.
Furthermore, the former Premier League champions have not been able to keep their nets clean in their prior eleven road trips, and finally, the sole clash between these two ended in a win for the Dutch outfit.
As such, a home win is the likely outcome for this match-day.
